Michael Phelps is an American swimmer that has been at the top of his game since he started. Phelps won 8 Olympic gold medals at the most recent 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, adding to his previous 6 from the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. His performance places him amoung the all time leading medal earners from the Olympic Games.
Michael Phelps graduated from Towson Gigh School in 2003 while setting records across the swimming world. Phelp's was earned the honor of the American Swimmer of the Year Award in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2008 and also the World Swimmer of the Year Award in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2008. Phelp's has unquestionably shown that he is the Tiger Woods of his sport and in similar fashion, set the world record for the 200 m butterfly at the age of 15.
Controversy
Michael Phelps was arrested in 2004 for dui at the age of 19. The incident in Salisbury, Maryland was the first of a few hiccups to come. The latest controversy is over photos released in 2009 of Phelps smoking a bong. He has since apologized and condoned his own actions More recently, Micheal Phelps has been seen palling around with Carrie Prejean, Miss California. By the end of April it was confirmed though Carrie Prejeans grandmother, as quoted on RadarOnline.com. Jeanette Coppolla stated that the beauty queen has been casually dating Michael Phelps. |
